Mike Pero Fendalton-Break room redesign
-Commercial-
The aim of the game with the break room redesign was to create a functional, cosy and comfortable space for agents to relax and kick back on their lunch breaks. The brief requirements included a new round table to seat more people, and creating a space for coffee, and to kickback as a team on Friday nights.
In order to keep costs minimal we first decided to hit up op-shops, second hand stores, trade-me and auction houses-there’s nothing better than up cycling a piece of furniture that has a lot of potential. Here we spray painted an old wooden tea trolley a glossy black and added simple gold hardware to create a modern bar and coffee cart on wheels. This allows the team members to bring out coffee to customers or drinks for a Friday night after a hard weeks work. We dressed this with glassware, geometric mugs, a wee treats jar and a simple white and wooden teapot to ground the colour. Underneath we placed existing glassware, champagne bottles, and a red decanter that really says bar cart. Above all this we have a custom made print “Have a Brewtiful morning”-too cute!
An important part of this design was repurposing what was already in the space and resting much needed room. The makeshift table moved out to become another desk for a team member, and the white cabinet and water cooler were repositioned to allow more room. A rose gold magazine basket keeps clutter more organised, accompanied with a brass gold watering can for the newly installed planter boxes.
The planter boxes bring life into the space with much needed greenery and colour. They allow privacy, heighten the space without making it darker and will grow into the box to create sweeping fronds. The table was a bargain find on trade me and spray painted gold legs really dress up the space. We have used the existing chairs, and whiteboard (a key feature in this busy office space!) and added a few coat hooks, a crate style toy-box, another plant in a house planter, and the space is complete!
Featured are before and after pictures, to really give you a feel for the space.
